The history of tea in Portugal began in the 16th century, when Portuguese explorers started trading with China. Portugal introduced tea to Europe, and its popularity grew with the influence of Catherine of Braganza, who married King Charles of England in 1662. In the 19th century, tea cultivation efforts started in Portugal, particularly in the Azores, where the two oldest and most famous tea gardens still exist. Today, a new garden called Chá Camélia is surprising tea lovers with unique aromatic, full-bodied and complex flavours.
